WHAT EXACTLY IS FAIRY HAIR?
Professional fairy hair should be made of a high quality polyester. Despite debate over it containing silk, silk cannot be manufactured to have a metallic-like sparkle. If you see the term "thai silk" this refers to the polyester being cut in very fine "silky" strands. These strands are tied to one strand of hair to add sparkle and bling to your hair!
HOW LONG DOES FAIRY HAIR LAST?
Fairy hair lasts 2 to 4 weeks and often longer. On adults it typically lasts a month or more. It depends on how thick your hair is, how fast you shed your hair, and how gentle or rough you are in your daily styling. Avoiding a fine tooth comb and using a wet brush or detangle brush will help your fairy hair last longer. Fairy hair may not last as long on young children since they typically have finer hair, tend to shed faster, and are typically rougher on their hair.
HOW IS FAIRY HAIR APPLIED?
Fairy hair is tied onto the hair with a special knot that fuses the fairy hair to the hair strand. If you do not prefer this method for whatever reason, fairy hair can also be applied with an extension bead, much like applying feathers. About 10 to 15 strands are threaded into a bead with a lock of hair and the bead is compressed to hold it tight. This will give you a different look as the fairy hair is concentrated in one place.
HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR FAIRY HAIR?
$15 for 6 strands, $25 for 10 strands, $35 for 15 strands, $45 for 20 strands, and $95 for 50 strands. Fairy hair applied with a bead is $10 per bead and includes 10 to 15 strands all together in a "chunky" and sparkly extension. Travel fees apply for in home services starting at $5 to locations up to 10 miles away. 10 to 20 miles is a $10 travel fee and 20 to 30 miles is a $15 travel fee. Travel fees increase by $5 for each additional 10 miles.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO APPLY FAIRY HAIR ?
It takes about a minute a strand, so 10 strands take about 10 minutes. Super long hair or fine hair takes a bit longer and young children who have a hard time sitting still may take longer as well. Those who have less experience will take longer.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CARE FOR FAIRY HAIR?
Fairy hair is strong and durable so you can brush, blow dry, curl, flat iron, and it will even withstand chemicals. But brushing gently is the best way to increase longevity. Use a wet brush or a detangle brush rather than a fine tooth comb. You can also hold a section of hair and brush below where you are holding so you can avoid pulling from the scalp.
IS FAIRY HAIR ONLY FOR LITTLE GIRLS OR TEENS?
We believe fairy hair is for everyone! Many of our clients are adult women and the oldest client so far was 98! Fairy hair adds excitement and creativity to your look, no matter what age you are.
CAN FAIRY HAIR BE APPLIED TO SHORT HAIR?
Your hair needs to be about 2 to 3 inches for successful application. Those with less experience will need more length.
CAN FAIRY HAIR BE APPLIED TO CURLY HAIR OR AFRO HAIR?
Our mission is to help everyone enjoy fairy hair. However, fairy hair tends to stay straighter until you wash and style your hair. Then it begins to conform to your hair type. Please let us know how you typically style your curls so we can give you tips for styling the fairy hair into them. Fairy hair can also be wrapped around your braids, twists, or locs into what we call Fairy Locs. The fairy loc is secured with a cuff of your choice.
CAN FAIRY HAIR BE APPLIED TO BRAIDS, TWISTS, OR LOCS?
Yes! However, the fairy hair would not be tied to one hair, it would instead be wrapped around the braid, twist, or loc and tied at the end to secure it. I call them Fairy Locs! These are wrapped in a criss-cross style and are secured with your choice of 2 colorful cuffs or 1 butterfly cuff.
HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FORÂ FAIRY LOCS?
Each fairy loc is $5 and includes 2 colorful cuffs of your choice or 1 butterfly cuff.
HOW CAN I CREATE A MORE SUBTLE LOOK WITH THE FAIRY HAIR?
If you love fairy hair but prefer it to be more subtle and less flashy or prominent, there are a few ways you can still rock it on the down-low. First, you can choose colors that are similar to your own hair color. You can also have it placed under your layers or even at the base of your head so that it peeks out at the ends of your hair. Please discuss your preference with us at your sparkle session.
WHY DID MY FAIRY HAIR STRANDS FALL OUT?
It's normal to lose a few strands in the first couple weeks. We always tie in extra strands to make up for these. If you think you shed a lot, please let me know so we can discuss options. Sometimes hair that is extremely fine, such as smaller children's hair, does not hold fairy hair well. You may want to consider purchasing more strands so that the fairy hair will last longer overall. We recommend brushing or combing gently and avoiding a fine tooth comb. We also recommend checking the strands that have fallen out to make sure that the hair is still in the knot. If it is, then the hair has shed. If not, please contact us as soon as possible. We always guarantee our work so if you are concerned or unhappy, just reach out and we will work with you to make it right.
HOW LONG DO HAIR FEATHER LAST?
Feather extensions last 2 to 4 weeks at least, but typically last a couple months. The feathers are extremely durable, so you can keep them and reuse them. However, the hair above the bead can become somewhat matted over time so please let me know if you need your extension adjusted. Adjustments and re-installations are $3.
HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR HAIR FEATHERS?
A 2 feather extension is $15, a 3 feather extension is $22, and a 4 feather extension is $28. This means that the feathers are all in one extension bead. Single feather extensions are $8 each. If you want 2 single feather extensions, they are priced per extension. So 2 single feather extensions in 2 separate beads would be $16. Layered feather extensions are $15 and are made by choosing up to 5 short feathers. The new enchanted extensions are made with regular feathers or layered small feathers and fairy hair. They are $15 for 1 regular feather and fairy hair, $20 for 2 regular feathers and fairy hair, and $25 for 3 regular feathers and fairy hair. The enchanted layered feather extensions are $20.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET HAIR FEATHERS?
One feather extension takes about 5 to 10 minutes. More extensions will take longer. Those with less experience will take longer.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CARE FOR HAIR FEATHERS?
Feathers are strong and durable. You can brush, blow dry, curl, and flat iron them. However, they should not be died, bleached, or permed. Be gentle when brushing and combing because the brush or comb will get caught on the bead. Over time the section of hair above the bead can become matted. If this happens and becomes annoying, just let me know and I will adjust it for you and put the feather back in. The adjustment fee is $3.
CAN FAIRY HAIR AND HAIR FEATHERS BE PUT INTO WIGS AND EXTENSIONS?
Yes, both can be put into wigs and extensions just as if it were your own hair. Please discuss your preferences with us at your appointment.
WILL GETTING FAIRY HAIR OR FEATHER EXTENSIONS HURT?
The application process of fairy hair, fairy locs, and feather extensions should absolutely not hurt. You may feel some gentle tugging or pressure throughout the process.
HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN PROPER HYGIENE?
Tools are cleaned and sanitized after each use. If you have further concerns, please discuss these with us at your appointment.
ARE YOU AVAILABLE FOR BIRTHDAY PARTIES, POP-UPS, AND PRIVATE EVENTS?
Absolutely! We are available for any kind of party you are throwing! We call them Sparkle Parties and we are happy to bring sparkle and excitement to whatever kind of party you're throwing or event you're organizing, no matter what age! Sparkle Parties are priced per participant while Private Events are priced per hour. Please click on the Parties & Events tab at the top of the page to see all the pricing options. We are now available for Permanent Jewelry parties as well! We require a 3 piece minimum and travel fees apply. Pricing is per piece.
WHAT'S INCLUDED IN A KIDS' BIRTHDAY PARTY?
The kids' party experience includes fairy hair with a real live fairy who sprinkles her magical pixie dust and can tickle your ears with mystical music.​ 6 to 8 fairy hair strands are tied on each participant, or 2 fairy locs, or 2 feathers, but this can be customized and upgraded to your preferences​. You can even add beautiful and fun temporary sparkle tattoos! The upgraded party experience includes 10 strands, or 6 strands and 1 feathers, or 3 feathers.
HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR PARTIES AND PRIVATE EVENTS?
Parties for kids are priced by number of participants. 4 participants or less start at $20 each. 5 or more participants start at $15. Parties are customizable and upgradable to your needs. Upgrades can include more strands, feathers, and temporary sparkle tattoos. Parties for adults are also priced by number of participants. 4 participants or less are $22 each and 5 or more are $20 each. These are also customizable but do require a $25 or $30 non-refundable deposit/cancellation protection to book and will include a travel fee of at least $5 depending on the location of the party. Private events are priced at $125 per hour with a minimum of 2 hours and $100 set up and tare down fee, depending on the extent of the set up. Services available to event attendees are also customizable. Private events are not subject to travel fees, but are booked with a $75 non-refundable deposit.
HOW ARE TEMPORARY SPARKLE TATTOOS APPLIED?
Sparkle tats are applied with adhesive vinyl stencils, body glue, and glitter color of your choice. The materials are safe to use on skin, but if you have concerns, please discuss these with me.
HOW LONG DO THE TEMPORARY SPARKLE TATTOOS LAST?
Our sparkle tats last about a couple days and even up to a week depending on placement and care. Placing the sparkle tat in an area that does not come into contact with water and other objects will increase longevity. They are mostly water resistant and will need some soap and scrubbing to come off. We now offer a spray on clear coating, much like a clear bandage to help the tattoos last even longer.
WHAT KINDS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
We take cash, check, credit cards and contactless payments, Cash App, Pay Pal, Venmo, and Zelle. Tips are always appreciated.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
The Feathers and Fairy Hair kiosk is located at the Concord Mills mall in Concord, NC. Typical hours at the mall are Wednesdays by appointment only, Thursdays 2pm to 6pm by appointment, Fridays 11am to 8pm, Saturdays 11am to 8pm, and Sundays 2pm to 6pm. During week days we can come to your home for an appointment or, if you prefer a more public place, we can meet somewhere, or you can come to one of my events. We can also be available on weekends for parties and events. ARE YOU CERTIFIED TO DO FAIRY HAIR AND FEATHERS AND TO TEACH THESE TECHNIQUES?
There is no certifying authority for fairy hair and feather extensions application or for teaching these techniques. Our knowledge comes from experience, research, and gleaning from other fairy hair professionals who have been in this field for a long time.
CAN I TAKE PICTURES AND VIDEO WHILE YOU'RE APPLYING FEATHERS AND FAIRY HAIR?
Yes of course! Some fairy hair professionals can be very protective of their work, but we invite you into the experience to enjoy it and cherish it as much you can, especially alongside your friends and loved ones!
DO YOU TRAIN OTHERS ON HOW TO TIE FAIRY HAIR AND APPLY FEATHERS?
Yes absolutely! We teach two main courses. The Sparkle Basics course includes 3 different tying techniques and all information related to fairy hair. This course is $300 and is typically a 5 to 6 hour course depending on how fast you learn the knots. The Sparkle Business course includes everything in the Sparkle Basics course as well as how to build a thriving fairy hair business. This course is $400 and takes typically 6 to 7 hours. You can also add on the Fabulous Feathers training or the Sparkle Yourself training, or both! The main courses and the feather training all include kits with the main tools you will need for application. Courses and trainings can be conducted over video if you cannot come to Charlotte North Carolina.
WHAT IF I NEED FURTHER ASSISTANCE WITH LEARNING THE TYING TECHNIQUES FOLLOWING A TRAINING SESSION?
Both courses are personalized to your needs and include ongoing assistance and review as needed. You will also have special access to videos so you can visually review the techniques over and over again!
CAN I LEARN TO APPLY FAIRY HAIR TO MY OWN HAIR?
Yes! We now offer an add-on training for $100 if you take one of my main courses. This self sparkle course teaches you 2 effective methods of trying fairy hair into your own hair. You can choose what method works best for you.
DO YOU SELL ANY MERCHANDISE?
Yes we do! We sell butterfly clips and cuffs and pixie dust (shimmer powder). We also sell fairy hair tying tools and feather extension tools for those who are building a fairy hair business. We also sell a carrying case for fairy hair. WHAT EXACTLY IS PERMANENT JEWELRY?
These are fine, delicate, and dainty chains that you almost don't even feel on your skin. The metals are precious and durable for long lasting wear. Permanent jewelry is simple and elegant and can be customized with your favorite add-ons, such as a gem or opal connector. Once you've chosen your chain and your add-ons, a bracelet is welded shut onto your wrist. Having a piece customized and fitted to you and then welded or closed is the permanent jewelry experience. If you prefer a removable piece, a clasp can be added for easy removal. Customers also like to "stack" bracelets which means having several on the same wrist that together form a stylish look.

WHAT METALS, CHAINS, AND ADD-ONS DO YOU OFFER?
Feathers and Fairy Hair offers a variety of metals, chains, and add-ons that are fun, stylish, and reflect the sparkle theme of the Feathers and Fairy Hair experience. We offer stainless steel, sterling silver, 14K gold filled, and 14K rose gold filled chains. We offer colorful birthstone gems, opals, and star connectors as well as a claps to make your jewelry removable. Add-ons and clasps come in sterling silver gold filled, and rose gold filled as well.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY JEWERLY?
We recommend using a cleaning cloth every so often to polish your jewelry and it and keep it shiny. Many jewelry stores offer free cleaning services. If it becomes soiled, use a soft toothbrush and a mild dish soap to scrub clean. Permanent Jewelry is not indestructible and will last on average 2 years. An active lifestyle, such as rock climbing, or coming into contact with chemicals often, such as pool chemicals or tanning product, can reduce the lifetime of a piece. Be mindful of these your activities and what your jewelry comes into contact with. Sizing correctly can help prevent snagging.
HOW IS PERMANENT JEWELRY DONE?
You choose the metal that fits your look then choose the particular chain that fits your style. You can then elevate your look by adding a connector of your choice. You can also add a clasp to make the bracelet removable. Your jewelry is specifically fitted to your size and taste and then welded shut. Our machine is a high quality arc welder, which uses electricity to very quickly melt the metal at an exact point. This process happens at such high temperatures that it releases a bright spark, but also happens so quickly that you can touch the metal immediately after the weld is made. This melted metal seals the gap in a jump ring making it a circle of solid metal. As a precaution, a piece of leather will be placed between your skin and the welding site to safeguard you from any heat.
WHAT IF MY JEWELRY BREAKS?
As always, Feathers and Fairy Hair is committed to an excellent experience of our services. If your jewelry breaks because of a weld failure, please bring your piece in to be re-welded for free. If you are unsure whether the weld failed or not, please bring your piece in for inspection. If you are unhappy with your jewelry for other reasons, please get in touch so we can work toward making your jewelry experience a better one. Please be mindful of more forceful activities and coming into contact with chemicals as these can impact the life of your jewelry.
ARE YOU CERTIFIED IN WELDING JEWELRY?
As of now there is no certifying body for permanent jewelry welding. My knowledge and expertise comes from the training of other permanent jewelers who have years of experience and success in welding.
WHAT ARE YOUR PRICES FOR PERMANENT JEWELRY?
Currently we are selling bracelets at the kiosk. Stainless steel chains are $45, sterling silver chains are $55, 14K gold filled chains are $65, 14K rose gold filled chains are $60. Add-ons such as the birthstone gem connectors, opal connector, star connector and clasp come in sterling silver, gold filled, rose gold filled and are $20 each. Kids 10 and under get a $10 discount on chains only.
WHAT IF I HAVE TO REMOVE MY JEWELRY AT THE AIRPORT OR FOR A MEDICAL PROCEDURE?
There are some occasions or reasons why you might be required to remove your permanent jewelry. Please use wire cutters to cut the jump ring, or the loop that was used to close and weld your bracelet. Then save your bracelet and bring it in for a re-welding. Re-welding is $15.
WHAT IF I HAVE TO RESIZE MY JEWELRY?
If you have recently purchased a piece and find that your jewelry is not fitting well, please come back to have your piece resized. If you need to resize after some time or for medical reasons, the resizing fee is $15. If medical conditions require you to remove jewelry often, we recommend purchasing and adding a clasp for easy removal. If your piece is too small, we recommend purchasing and adding a connector to add a bit more length. If your piece is too big, it can be easily shortened and re-welded.
